Attraction Information
Quainton Windmill is a great place for kids to learn about the history of windmills and this one in particular. The sails are currently being replaced but will hopefully be in place ready for the reopening in April 2016!
It was originally restored in the 1970s but is currently undergoing further restoration at the moment, (which means the sails have been removed) but it is still an interesting place to visit.
There are 6 floors to explore, each with something different to learn about from the knowledgeable and friendly volunteers. It's a great stop for those studying relevant subjects at school as an educational resource but also an intriguing one for curious minds in general and the casual visitor too can enjoy the views.
Restoration now takes place on the first floor, the second contains flour ready for dispatch, with a machine to grade the flour. The third floor will fascinate the kids as it is where most of the controls and adjustments for the mills are placed.
Please be aware that the steps to climb to each floor are quite steep and may not be suitable for the little ones to climb although there are banisters to hold on to.
There is also a stunning view across the Village Green and Aylesbury vale to enjoy from the gallery. It is a long way up not suitable for really little legs but if you can manage it it's worth the climb so be sure to take a camera, binoculars or whatever else you need to enjoy the view - you certainly won't want to pop back down and get it!
