Attraction Information
Poldark Tin Mine - located in the picturesque Wendron Valley, is one of Cornwall's most important heritage sites, and contains what are believed to be the oldest complete mine workings in Great Britain that are open to the public.
Poldark Mine is one of the few mines where you can see the underground workings, as you are taken deep below the hillside through the labyrinth of caverns and tunnels into the only complete underground Cornish tin mine open to the public. Worked from the Medieval period until 1790s the mine workings at Poldark retain much of their original character.
The mine tour may not be suitable for less abled visitors. There are some low spots and narrow passages, and lots of steps. You will need to wear the hard hat provided, and sensible shoes are a requirement - flip flops and open sandals will not be allowed, trainers and crocs are fine.
Other restrictions apply. The entire Poldark Demesne is a 100% smoke & Dog free Zone due to the wildlife on site and strict mine regulations - matches lighters etc are contraband prohibited items & must be left in your car.
The underground sequences for the BBC 2015 & 1977 Poldark series were filmed here.
