Attraction Information
Pendennis Castle is acknowledged to be one of the finest fortresses built by Henry VIII, so history buffs and imaginative kids are in for a treat! You and your family will be transported back to Tudor times and also through to First and Second World Wars to it's role in Fortress Falmouth. There's a rich history associated with Pendennis and great new displays really do it justice. Explore the fascinating new exhibition and examine the role of the castle as part of Fortress Falmouth during the World War 1.
Plus on the entertainment side, you and the kids can see a full Tudor gun deck in action complete with the sights and sounds of battle! An interactive exhibition will show you what life as a garrison solder was like. There is even a WWI Guardhouse and cells where you can pretend to be an imprisoned soldier! It's great fun but obviously has a serious undertone that may bother some kids, and perhaps rightly so.
Most kids however will simply love the creepy castle tunnels, the big guns and magazine at Half Moon Battery and feeling like they are xperiencing a war time raid. There is also a fascinating collection of wartime cartoons on display which appeared in newspapers throughout WW II.
Beyond the fortress there are extensive grounds and spectacular sea views great for having a hike before or after, or indeed both! A tearoom might also tempt you during your visit but there's certainly more than enough room for picnicking if you fancy a bit of that!
