Attraction Information
Peak Rail welcomes your family to journey back (baaack) to a bygone age and experience the historic thrill of steam and diesel on their preserved railway! Operating between Rowsley South and Matlock Platform 2, it's a decent distance of 4 miles and it's perfect for a short ride with the smalls. It's open throughout the year plus from May to September the picnic area will be open. For people with disabilities they have a special adapted carriage which is fully accessible for wheelchair uses.
At the Darley Dale Station the waiting facilities feature railway books and books for pre-school children, plus a selection of DVDs. Right beside this is their small museum with an exhibition artistically charting the history of the former Midland line that ran between Matlock and Rowsley. There is a selection of nostalgic old photographs, vintage artefacts, original posters, interesting items of memorabilia and various historic documents on display. More than enough to satisfy a casual interest but also a big bonus for true train enthusiasts who'll appreciate what they're seeing!
At Rowsley South Station there's a buffet in the station serving hot and cold snacks, but also the peak rail picnic area - so it's up to you! Plus certain days between April to September you can get ice creams etc from The Break Van. With limited opening it's not worth depending on unless you plan carefully, but a nice treat should it happen to coincide!
