The unique Northumberlandia public art installation is one for the record books: the lady laying atop the landscape is 100m high, a quarter mile long and made from 1.5 million tonnes of clay, rock and soil! You and the kids can walk some of the 4 miles of trails around her enormous body, which was created from nearby land mass and covers the Shotton Surface mine, which is still operating beneath her!
It should be noted that whilst impressive and inspiring kids! However there's plenty of serious educational balance to be made as this it is a restoration first and part of a long term regenerative plan for the area that's interesting to discuss.
At the Visitor Centre you can find the cafe and the loos, plus Northumberland Wildlife Trust staff are on hand to answer any questions and there are interpretive panels on the local wildlife score.
Please also note that while the paths are accessible and well surfaced cycling is not permitted on them whatsoever, so please leave your bikes locked up at the centre.
