Although within the city, the Ness Islands could easily be a million miles from it and offers a unique and serene family trip destination for those who love to wander. The islands are linked by charming old bridges and lead you on a quiet, scenic walk through huge native and imported ranges of tree life. Plus you'll pass purportedly some of the best salmon pools to be found on the lower Ness which is always intriguing for kids. An enjoyable family walk suited to wheelchair and pushchair users as much as the rest of you.
Don't forget that you can enhance your trip by taking along binoculars, camera or sketchpad and bird or bug books; or why not split forces and dart a ways ahead of the rest of the family to lay a coloured ball or shiny paper trail? Plus dressing for the weather is a must so take along your wellies and whatnot, as well as the placcy bags to contain the messy things in when you get back to the car! Also worth remembering that the charming Whin Park and the Ness Islands Railway are both nice and close by.
