Explore an incredible 200,000 portraits crafted between the 16th Century and the present day in a wide variety of different and intriguing mediums. These include (but are not limited to) drawings, miniatures, negatives, paintings, photographs, prints, sculptures and much more! It's an inspiring stop for curious minds of all ages but especially so for those with an artistic bent.
Should you be taking youngsters it's worth noting that there aren't really provisions for buggy storage, they have lockers but nothing larger than 45x30x45cm will be stored, so well worth leaving the kit and caboodle in the car and trekking it out either on foot or, for the little ones, in a kiddie backpack!
Regular events and activities on offer include drop in Sunday Sessions to re bookable Art workshops. On offer are activities from hands-on activities including drawing and painting to full multi media animation, so there are plenty of things to keep small fingers, as well as all eyes, busy and on topic.
Primary, Photographic and Reference Collections all have something individual to offer the art lover too, depending on age and how in depth you want to experience things! However repeat visits are just as intriguing as they also feature a wide range of varying temporary and special exhibits: almost always programmed to families this seasonal range helps add fresh interest to old grounds as they revel in the great and glorious through the surreal and super modern.
