Attraction Information
Mizens Railway is a fabulous place to visit with children of all ages from 12 months and up. There are ticket offices and guards to welcome you so it feels like a real railway! Please note the limited opening hours when planning a visit though.
There are a choice of runs on the railway and a variety of locomotives are used, including a few steam engines so those really into their rail stuff can enjoy a wealth of materials and detail. For those visiting in a shallower capacity there's enough range and sparkle to the items on display that casual interest is well maintained too, so it's not just for experts!
To the rear of the Station building is a large grassed area with picnic tables so you can get a good view of the trains while you eat and there's room to run around choo-choo-ing. There is also seating in front of the station to watch the activity there but picnicking there is discouraged.
For kids who would like to know more about how the fleet are used and looked after, there is the local depot and turntable. Take a look at the signal box, which works in a similar way to the full sized ones and offer an excellent chance for some secret schooling.
The footbridge provides another good vantage point to see the trains leaving the tunnel and approaching the platform plus it's a great spot for a family photo. There are also a couple of full sized engines to take a look at. A great place to do something a little different with the kids!
