The whole family will enjoy a trip to Macduff Marine Aquarium where there are a wide range of living displays representing the local ecosystems and marine life.
The Sea Lab and Touch Pools offer kids (and you too!) some hands on interaction with marine life of several types, and the jellyfish zone offers easy access information ideal for kids. Plus, the audio visual theatre houses their special exhibit space used for expert talks and presentations. If you're flexible about when you visit, check ahead on their calendar to see what's coming up!
Their living kelp reef in the deepest central exhibit is the only one in Britain and their expert divers regularly hand feed the fish, which is awesome to watch! The feeding schedules vary daily, so best strategy is to ask at reception as you buy the tickets what's occurring that day, then work your lunch break around the fish's!
You can pick up pre-packed snacks and drinks in the gift shop but of course there's no refreshments allowed in the aquarium itself, so it's handy that there are both a food stand and a picnic area right outside. So it's a lovely bonus that your admission ticket is valid all day so you can pop out for lunch and come back later. And if you stick around the bay of the Moray Firth it's not unusual to spot seals and bottle nose dolphins playing just off shore!
The whole place is wheel and push chair accessible with disabled access toilets and a baby changing area also provided.
