Llancaiach Fawr Manor stands proudly, as it has done since c1550, overlooking the Glamorgan Uplands and the same sorts of footsteps still echo in it's halls because there are costumed characters wandering the building ready to tell you their job and story! A great way to engage kids and encourage them to be curious about history.
The building you see here now was built in c1550 for Dafydd ap Richard and the Manor was designed to be easily defended during the somewhat turbulent reigns of Tudor kings and queens. It is one of the finest examples of a semi-fortified manor still standing in Wales today and well worth a visit if you're in the area.
Every family that steps into this Manor House, sympathetically restored and furnished just as it would have been in 1645, will enjoy the interactive displays and there's plenty to explore between the house and gardens.
A visitors centre welcomes you on arrival and offers advice on how best to approach the manor for your group's mobility and houses a gift shop and a cafe.
It's worth noting that they also do Ghost Tours by appointment, as there's a fairly rich history of supernatural occurrence around the property. Oo0oO! Ahem, sorry to scare you - we meant ooh!
