The vast medieval fortress of Kenilworth Castle is one of the largest historic visitor attractions in the West Midlands, and one of the most spectacular castle ruins in England. A brilliant day out for the whole family, set in vast grounds perfect for exploring with the castle as dramatic backdrop.
Keniworth Castle has been at the centre of England's affairs for over 900 years, from medieval fortress to Elizabethan palace. Today, you can marvel at the mighty Norman keep, explore the exhibition at the Gatehouse, climb the tower built to woo Queen Elizabeth, and imagine the majesty of the medieval monarch and early Tudor kings in the Great Hall!
All families can use the children's audio tours, which are included in the admission price. There's also the Step Inside Activity Pack, with puzzles and activities for children to complete as they explore the castle.
The newly recreated Elizabethan Garden, lost for 400 years, is now open to visitors once more. A paradise for garden lovers, wander through this sumptuous landscape as Queen Elizabeth I would have done herself. Cool!

Beautiful wintery trip

We visited last December (my two year old, my husband and I) between Christmas and New Years on a cold, sunny day and it was brilliant. If you don't know anything about the castle it's worth noting that it's not a full castle like Warwick Castle, but several partial buildings, ruins, a Tudor garden and bird cage with only the old gatehouse surviving. But a perfect blend of something picturesque and fun to explore / run around for the toddler! We had a nice lunch in the converted stables and bought some traditional sloe gin from the shop on the way out :) Will definitely visit again
A lovely castle for little castle lovers

We regularly nip over to Kenilworth as we live in Leamington so it isn't far for us. The castle offers a lovely afternoon walk. The facilities and grounds are always immaculately kept and there are often re-enactments and activities during the day for the kids. I would say that access can be an issue, we took my elderly grand mother and by nature of the castle, it was really heavy going for her. But thankfully there is a nice pub over the road where she could rest her legs!
