Attraction Information
John Muir Country Park is a great spot to take the family, with a range of activities available, including pony rides and wildlife trails. It can be found on a lovely stretch of coastline, making it a beautiful and interesting place to visit with plenty to see and do. It is named after John Muir, a naturalist, explorer and conservationist.
The park covers some of the most spectacular coastline in East Lothian, with plenty of wildlife for the family to look out for and enjoy. It is an especially good spot for birdwatchers, with kittiwake on the castle ruins, shelduck and eider duck in the dunes, plus skylarks and lapwings during the summer. You will also find gannets, terns, ringed plovers, sand martins and many more!
Other highlights to discover are the Castle Ruins in Dunbar, the Peffer Burn (6 kilometres to the north), plus a brilliant Cliff Top Trail, with some fantastic views to enjoy, such as the historic Bass Rock, the long sandy sweep of Belhaven Bay, and extensive areas of grassland, salt marsh and woodland. You can also see the sea!
There is also a large children's' play area by Linkfield car park, plus 2 BBQ stoves available to rent, so you can really make a day of it with the kids if you plan ahead. Boy scouts at the ready!
