This is much more common during the summer and can happen to anyone. So, it&#8217;s best to limit the amount of time spent outside in this hot weather. Or take extra precautions, to mitigate the dangers from either of the two heat-related illnesses.[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=&#8221;25px&#8221;][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column]<h3 class=\"dowtk-heading\">What are the symptoms?<\/h3>\n            <div class=\"dowtk-blog-image\">\n                \n                \n                    <picture class=\"attraction-cta__image\">\n                        <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dayoutwiththekids.co.uk/hub\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/shutterstock_1569482995.jpg\" alt=\"woman in front of a fan\" class=\"lazyload\" \/> \n                    <\/picture>\n                            <\/div>\n\n            [vc_empty_space height=&#8221;25px&#8221;][vc_column_text]The common symptoms of heat exhaustion or sunstroke are as follows:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Dizziness and confusion<\/li>\n<li>A headache<\/li>\n<li>Loss of appetite and feeling sick<\/li>\n<li>Excessive sweating or pale, clammy skin<\/li>\n<li>Heat cramps in the body (mainly arms, legs and stomach)<\/li>\n<li>Fast breathing or quickened pulse<\/li>\n<li>A body temperature of 38 degrees or higher<\/li>\n<li>Extreme thirst<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The symptoms generally are the same for both children and adults, but children can become <strong>sleepy and floppy<\/strong> too.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The more severe symptoms of heat stroke (sunstroke) include:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Fast breathing or shortness of breath<\/li>\n<li>A fit or seizure<\/li>\n<li>Loss of consciousness<\/li>\n<li>Unresponsiveness<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>When these symptoms present themselves, <strong>call<\/strong> <strong>999 immediately<\/strong>. Either with a wet cloth\/water sponge or water spray and fan them too.<\/li>\n<li>Until they start to feel better, it&#8217;s best to stay with them. If in <strong>30 minutes<\/strong> they aren&#8217;t feeling better, <strong>call 111<\/strong> to get more medical advice. Especially if they aren&#8217;t sweating when they&#8217;re hot, feel confused or continue to have a high body temperature.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=&#8221;25px&#8221;][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column]<h3 class=\"dowtk-heading\">How to prevent heat exhaustion or sunstroke<\/h3>[vc_empty_space height=&#8221;25px&#8221;][vc_column_text]When out in the hot weather, whether it&#8217;s engaging in physical activities, going on walks, or sunbathing, it&#8217;s imperative that you take measures to <strong>look after yourself<\/strong>. Here are a few ways you can prevent a heat-related illness:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Drink plenty of fluids, especially when exercising. It&#8217;s important to keep hydrated<\/li>\n<li>Bathe or shower with cool water<\/li>\n<li>Wear loose-fitted and lightweight clothing<\/li>\n<li>Avoid the sun during peak times (11:00 &#8211; 15:00)<\/li>\n<li>Avoid excess alcohol<\/li>\n<li>Avoid excess exercise<\/li>\n<li>Keep the body cool<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>While these preventions will help most people avoid the symptoms of heat exhaustion and sunstroke, you should keep a <strong>closer eye on children, the elderly and people with long-term health conditions<\/strong>.
