Attraction Information
Set your imaginations alight in a wide variety of family activities at Hatchlands! Explore meadow trails, uncover tales of life at sea or watch an outdoor theatre performance of The Wizard of Oz. These are just a few of many fun activities you can expect to find this Summer at one of the National Trust's most beloved locations.
Summer at Hatchlands
Celebrate the historical naval hero and former homeowner, Edward Boscawen, by enjoying a series of sea-themed fun and games at Hatchlands Park this summer. Check out the straw bale boat and take on the maze in the walled garden. There is also a nautical-themed spotting trail from the 22nd of July - the 3rd of September in the parkland.
Get stuck into a wonderful collection of classic Summer play activities on the lawn! Bounce the day away on space hoppers. Get competitive in the hilarious welly throwing activity or put your sporting hats on and take part in badminton, short tennis, football and sack races.
Are you an animal lover? Visit the donkeys in their brand new stable, complete with a new family picnic space and early years play.
Thespian, or not, we can all enjoy a riveting performance of our favourite flicks! Immerse yourself in outdoor theatre performance this summer, with classic love stories Sense and Sensibility and Romeo and Juliet, plus everyone’s family favourite the Wizard of Oz.
Grab a map from reception and explore the Great Wix Wood play area, Home of Wizard Wix's Willow Warren. It's packed full of epic natural play features where kids can build dens, climb into treehouses, and scurry across balance beams.
Other things to do
Spanning 422 acres and open 363 days a year, the parkland at Hatchlands is a wonderful spot to enjoy the great outdoors. Discover wonderful walks, and a natural play area for the kids, and say hello to the resident donkeys, or just stop by and enjoy a breath of fresh air.
The stately home Hatchlands Park contains exemplary tenant Alec Cobbe's collection of paintings and fine furniture. They also display the infamous Cobbe Collection, Europe's largest collection of keyboard instruments associated with famous composers including Bach, Chopin and Elgar. The kids aren't permitted to tinkle the ivories but it's still a pleasant collection for all ages to view.
Outside you won't go short of space to run about in as there are more than 161 hectares (that's 400 acres!) of largely accessible, multi-terrain parkland to explore plus April through May the Bluebell Wood is literally stunning, an excellent spot for photos of the kids.
But the big draw will be Home of Wizard Wix's Willow Warren, the all-natural adventure area for children! This is the perfect spot to run around, get active and enjoy nature, with balance beams, stepping stones, willow domes, a bug burrow and a tree house. If you are eager to explore the Great Wix Wood then make sure you grab a map from the reception.
There is plenty of provisions made for keeping kids entertained here, with several fun trails and activities for children both inside and out.
