Attraction Information

Gunsgreen House, once described as a splendid palace built by a smugglers was built in 1753 by local merchant (read-smuggler!) John Nisbet. The house retains many of its original features and has now been restored and opened to the public.

In the cellars, where Nisbet would have hidden his contraband goods, there is an interactive smuggling museum. You can dress up as a smuggler, crawl through hidden tunnels and hide in barrels to spook mum and dad! Touch, smell and discover all the history of smuggling at Gunsgreen. Colour in, do the find the rat trail and become a qualified smuggler. Smuggle your bag of tea through the house and discover the famous tea chute, pop it in and see where it goes!

Kids and parents alike will love the tours of the historical rooms in the rest of the house (remember to look out for those fluffy rats on your trail!), where you can listen to tails of each room, and really feel what the house would have been like all those years ago.

Our friendly guides will be on hand to tell you all about times gone by, and answer any questions the little ones (and big ones!) may have.

Finish your tour back in the cellars, discovering where that bag of tea did go! Get yourself a certified smuggler certificate (Nisbet would be oh so proud!) and have a peek at the delights in our gift shop. You can then walk across to the town (just 5 to 10 minutes) and discover the other delights of Eyemouth. A museum telling all about the local fishing disaster, Maritime centre, youth art and craft shops, award winning bistros, ice cream parlours, fish and chip shops and a stunning local beach.
