Glengowla Mines offers and unusual opportunity for family fun, with a tour of an underground mine, interesting information about earthquakes and the chance to visit a working farm!
Delve deep intp the belly of Glengowla mines, as you are lead on a journey of discovery by your friendly tour guide into caverns of marble, studded with silver and lead, and learn about the working conditions for miners during the mid 1800s. If you are feeling brave enough, there is a chance to experience the mines in the dark! There are also some beautiful, rare crystals of fluorite and quartz for the kids to marvel at. You will also get the chance to pan for gold and gems at the gold panning station, and keep anything that you find!
There is also a seismograph as Glengowla, which is part of the National Seismic Network. You will get the chance to see how they work and learn about the world wide impact of earthquakes.
You will also be able to visit Connermara ponies and pet lambs, as Glengowla is also a working farm. If you book in advance, you can see a herding demonstration with Bob the sheepdog, or watch a turf cutting demonstration.
