Suitable for all ages
Venue type: Outdoor
Glenariff Forest Park is one of the 9 Antrim Glens, and has over 1,000 glorious hectares to explore with the kids, involving a great mixture of planted woodlands, recreation spaces, lakes and even waterfalls! There are 2 small but beautiful rivers - the Inver and the Glenariff - containing the waterfalls but also tranquil pools and stretches of fast flowing water whooshing through steep gorges: it's pretty impressive!
There's an “in touch” information kiosk where you can find out about the forest and local area, including tourist information that can help you plan your visit. Kids (and you!) will absolutely love the Waterfall Walkway, which is 3 miles (4.8km) long, and takes you by the 2 best waterfalls.
There are also a number of other trails, which will give you great views and chances to see wildlife such as the hen harrier, Irish hare, and red squirrel. The trails vary in length from the Viewpoint Trail, which is about half a mile long, to the Scenic Trail, which is 5.5miles and offers amazing views to enjoy plus some great exercise.
This is a pretty magical place to take the kids (especially the boardwalks on stilts!) that is nicely signposted and visitor friendly for minimum stress to parents. It is also a great venue for caravanning and camping, horse riding, and more.
Visitors should be aware that there is currently an outbreak of Japanese Larch tree disease, which while not harmful to people, can spread to other trees, so please take note of the additional signs to prevent this and use it for some secret schooling!
