Attraction Information
Foxton Boat Services, is located at the bottom of Foxton Locks, in the beautiful Leicestershire countryside, and brimming with heritage, with historic and interesting villages nearby.
Many thousands of boats pass through this set of staircase locks (the longest in the country), which provide education and wonder for all ages. There is an onsite museum situated in the restored engine house of the inclined Plane, which holds many artefacts that explain both the history of the locks, and also of the Plane itself, a remarkable piece of Victorian engineering, soon to be undergoing restoration.
Passenger boat trips run most weekends between April and October (inclusive), or if you are feeling more adventurous, you can hire a boat yourself and spend the day experiencing the canal first-hand! There is plenty of wildlife to enjoy on the way, plus the resident ducks and swans to look out for.
There is a network of footpaths and towpaths that provide ideal walking, with choice of many routes. The locks and surroundings are freely open and accessible to the public all year round.
