Exmouth Museum can be found in a 19th century building made up of the former Council stables and the adjoining foreman's cottage. It is now divided into 3 galleries to explore, showing various aspects of Exmouth's past. The museum can be found in the heart of Exmouth, within walking distance of the car parks and the shopping centre, and they offer free entry for children and students.
Discover the rich local history of Exmouth through a number of different displays, which provide information about local businesses, the town's connection with the Royal Marines, railways, wartime, antique lace, local brick making, and much more. There is plenty of memorabilia to see, plus a 1950's room, a Victorian kitchen, commemorative china, plus a Great War exhibition to commemorate the centenary.
Learn the stories of brave local heroes that won the Victoria Cross, one of whom was the first pilot to shoot down a Zeppelin. You can also find out about pilot Douglas Carbery, who shot down 6 enemy aircraft during WWI, there is a model of his aircraft to see, plus photographs taken by the pilot himself, of crashed enemy aircraft and his RFC colleagues. The museum also has a large collection of photographs, plus some oil paintings and watercolours to admire.
Quiz sheets are available for the kids, along with their ever popular Find the Cats trail for the youngest visitors.
