Attraction Information
One of Scotland's most iconic specimens, Eilean Donan Castle is tremendous fun to explore, a majestic exterior with opulent interiors and terrific scenery surrounding it.
It's a castley enough castle to keep small ones enthralled just looking around and daydreaming in the atmosphere but for older types there's also a rich and interesting history associated with the site, where castles have literally been built upon castles! So, whether you're coming at it from a touristy or educational angle there's plenty here to suit you all and more than enough to discover to satisfy.
There is regrettably no disabled access to the castle as there are oodles of steps but those with mobility issues can view a computer based Virtual Tour in the visitor centre and still enjoy the experience in that way. This also means if you've got a mid-range toddler who generally demands to walk everywhere then you need to give consideration to how you will manage the many steps and negotiate with them for some carrying time in the name of safety.
There are also a Coffee Shop, Gift Shop and Toilets available, so it's a well-equipped environment to take kids.
Plus, the visitor centre has great Tourist Information resources too so it's an ideal spot for starting your Highland adventure day or stocking up on info for the rest of your trip. If you've got older kids who don't mind sitting still awhile then have a look at the bus tour or the ferry from Glenelg! All in all, very pleasant!
