The Eastern Moors are found deep within the Peak District and are a truly stunning natural site.

Whether you’re taking your kids for a runaround, want to teach them about the habitat or just want some peace away from the city, this is the place. The site offers access to a network of footpaths, bridleways and climbing edges, all managed by the RSPB and National Trust. There’s an absolute abundance of wildlife to keep your eyes peeled for, as well as the option to ride bikes as you explore the terrain.

Families will have something to enjoy all year round, including events and volunteering opportunities. There are also natural play spaces and picnic benches.

Refreshment vans at Curbar Gap weekends and holidays only.

Pets allowed

Dogs under close control welcome. Please bag and bin poop. Dogs must be on a lead from 1st March - 31st July. Horses are welcome on bridleways.


No toilets on site. Nearest toilets available at Longshaw and Baslow village.

Clothing requirements

Dress appropriate for changeable weather conditions.

Guest suitability

Open access site with varied terrain. Some routes accessible by wheelchair or pushchair including the Burbage Valley.

Parking facilities

Parking charges apply at Curbar Gap and Birchen Edge (free to RSPB and National Trust members). Free parking available at Shillito Wood car park and lay-bys.

Public transport

The nearest railway station is 4 miles away at Grindleford, on the Sheffield to Manchester railway line.
