Cyfarthfa Castle Museum and Art Gallery can be found on the edge of the beautiful Brecon Beacons National Park and has an interesting variety of objects to explore in their collections, plus tearooms if you fancy some refreshment. It only costs £1 for adult admission, and kids under 16 get in free, making it a great day out for the family.
The castle, a grand castellated mansion, is set within 160 acres of parkland, which contains a lake, formal gardens, a model railway, and a children's play area. It was built during the Industrial Revolution, and is now host to a spectacular museum and art gallery with a range of art displays, plus eclectic ancient collections that include Greek and Roman artefacts, Egyptian grave goods, and Far Eastern Decorative Arts! The museum also houses the first ballot box, dresses by Laura Ashley, and the first steam whistle. Other displays include collections of ceramics, social history, archaeology, textiles, natural history, and coins. Audio Tour guides are available for £2.50.
Once you have finished exploring the fascinating and diverse collection inside the museum, the grounds are a lovely place to relax, take a stroll, or have a picnic, especially during the summer months.
