Curtis Museum is a family friendly museum that is free to visit, with plenty to do at the museum, plus changing exhibitions to see in the Allen Gallery! They also run a regular programme of family oriented activities and events, that include bookable workshops, and drop in ‘make and take' activities.
Explore over 100 million years of history through one of the finest history collections in Hampshire, with displays that include Saxon burials, prehistoric tools, Roman pottery reconstruction, the 1643 Battle of Alton, and more.
You can also find out about pickling and brewing, plus discover the notorious tale of Sweet Fanny Adams! Kids will love the Gallery of Childhood, with is packed with dolls, toys, and children's books dating back to the 18th century! You can also see a selection of jigsaw puzzles, and 2 fully furnished dolls houses, all at an ideal height to for the kids to see.
During term time, the Gallery is full of tables and chairs especially for younger visitors, with a number of activities for them to try. Other highlights for kids are a dressing up area with a choice of fun and historic costumes, plus a selection of trails for different ages and abilities.
Kids are always made to feel welcome, they won't say “Ssshhh!!” and they will try not to tell you not to touch stuff too often! They also try to ensure that objects, labels, and pictures are at a suitable height for kids to see, and if they aren't you can borrow step up steps.
