Attraction Information
Croft Castle boasts over 1500 acres of surrounding farm, park and woodland to explore. The castle itself has numerous intriguing options for kids including getting hands on with the grand piano and access to vintage toys and games like snakes and ladders, tiddly winks, train sets and mah-jong! Plus they offer guided attic and cellar tours for a bit more historical insight and education.
Outside, kids over 7 will instantly head for the Orienteering course and the natural style Adventure Play Area but there are also several mini play areas aimed at the smaller kids. But when they've let off some steam, the Walled Garden is also great for exploring and comes with bee hives, historic orchards, some really ancient trees, a vineyard, the Georgian stable block and a mid-restoration glasshouse. Further into the parkland you will find an Iron Age hill fort with terrific views across the Brecon beacons. The St Michaels and All Angels church is also very pleasant to peek around.
There are a variety of marked walks on site including the short Ancient Tree Walk (with pushchair friendly paths); the Fishpool Valley Walk (1.5 miles) and The Croft Ambrey Walk (3 miles). If you've got older, hardier types then you should have a crack at the Pokehouse Wood Walk, which is pretty long at 5 miles but is more adventurous and also takes in the River Lugg and The Old Bridge. You choose, but wear good shoes!
They also offer a solid and regular program of family oriented activities and events during school holidays and at Christmas, so it's well worth checking ahead and planning a trip around their events schedule.
