Attraction Information
The Craigievar Castle is a fairytale castle, a fine example of Scottish Baronial architecture, seems on first glance to have grown naturally out of the rolling hills themselves and is a fantastic stop with imaginative kids. The great tower stands just as it did when completed in 1626 so there's a real sense of authenticity about its atmosphere too.
The castle is great for exploring and you can discover a fine collection of family portraits and original plaster ceilings to crane your neck viewing. There is also much original Jacobean woodwork and some beautiful furniture, including the 'Craigievar table'. There's a children's quiz and family trail also available to help keep the smalls involved and interested, as largely it's a fairly dry and educational affair - though fascinating to those interested in history and architecture.
Surrounding the castle are extensive parkland grounds with 2 way marked walks of differing lengths which are a great way to see the castle's exterior from all angles and really take some great photos. There is also a small Victorian kitchen garden and a Scottish glen garden to explore and learn about, with the kitchen plot being particularly fragrant and sensory.
