Come and visit a 1,000 year old castle that's been shaped by warfare! One of Britain's most iconic and evocative survivors of the Civil War, visitors of all ages can't fail to be captivated by these romantic castle ruins, which come with breathtaking views across the Purbeck too. With fallen fortress walls and secret places, to discover, there are tales of historic treachery and treason to be discovered around every corner!
This is a particularly active castle, with lots of events throughout the year including Family Fun Days and awesome Battle Re-enactments, plus Open Air Theatre and Cinema! Check the website to see what's coming up!
You can pick up a family guide aimed at kids to help you get the most of the visit, plus there's a children's quiz and trail to help keep them moving round and soaking up the learning! There are extra school holiday activities laid on too including family treasure trails, plus a permanent Wildlife Walk great for small kids around the grounds, spotting ravens, rare butterflies and extremely fluffy sheep!
Pushchairs and baby back carriers are both permitted, but beware the steep slopes and uneven surfaces. Baby changing facilities are also provided. There's a playground nearby in Corfe village too!
