Attraction Information
The park's most outstanding feature is their rare bovines: the purebred Chillingham Wild Cattle herd here is the only one in the world! They're actually a little dangerous to approach so this part of the visit is done with a professional warden who will ensure your safety. Dangerous cows: a unique experience for animal lovers of all ages!
Free roaming Roe and Fallow Deer can regularly be seen here, less often spotted but still around are the Red Squirrels, Foxes and Badgers. The park is also home to over 50 species of birds, so it's a brilliant spot to take your little twitchers, preferably along with bird book, notepad and binoculars.
The lower part of the park is a tangle of medieval looking alder trees so it's a fun part to stop and role play in with the kids, plus much of the rest is maintained as it was set out in the 1760s so it's a pleasingly atmospheric and authentic vintage park experience.
And all this is within sight of the Chillingham Castle, which is an adventure in its own right! Explore stately rooms, hear ghostly stories, and visit the (mildly) frightening dungeons!
