Venue type: Outdoor
Highlights include the tower house, which is a well preserved example of a 15th century Scottish nobleman's residence, plus The Hall in the tower with it's fine architectural features, including the splendid fireplace.
The views from the battlements looking south over the Water of Fleet to the Solway Firth beyond are stunning.
We haven't recommended it for toddlers because of the enormous quantity of close quarter stairs. Cardoness Castle is at the top of a small but steep hill. It is reached up a steep concrete path approximately 150 metres long and a series of six flights of steps, 33 in total. Give little legs serious thought!
