Cambridge Science Centre
Running throughout 2015 they are featuring the Extreme Engineering Exhibition, focussing on Speed, Construction and Miniaturisation! Families can explore some amazing galleries together and learn how the world's tallest buildings are built, how the fastest vehicles do what they do and how the world's shrinking electronics are changing literally everything. As it goes live in July the details are light at present, but the implication is that there is opportunity to design and construct their own feats of engineering and test them to destruction… Watch this space!
There are a terrific number of intriguing permanent exhibits which include spectroscope and camera obscura; sound oriented experiments and awesome interactive light mix technologies; hands-on electronics displays; biology galleries; magnetics zones; engineering presentations and some great optical and aural illusions. A huge mix of subjects! Part of the charm here is that the majority of the participatory elements are still great sensory fun to engage with even if one doesn't appreciate the concepts and principles demonstrated. That said, naturally kids of school age will get much more out of it, with such a wide range of influences and disciplines they are bound to come out with at least one new interest!
Birthday parties here are something special too, with live shows and workshops added into the mix and private use of the whole museum.
