Bush Farm Bison Centre offers the rather unique opportunity to see Bison in the UK and learn all about them, and to see a number of other animals including raccoons, rhea, elk, guanaco, chipmunks, and prairie dogs! The farm is a wonderful place for a family day out, with lakes to discover, and 30 acres of old oak woodlands to explore. There is also a museum room and a Gallery, so there are a great variety of things to see and do with the kids.
Bush Far can be found tucked away in the woods at the southern end of West Knoyle, a little village 2 miles from the A303. You can collect a farm map for the farm walk from the Gallery, which has Native American artefacts of all kinds, pictures of American wildlife, plus “Buffalo” robes to keep you warm in winter! The museum room contains a number of artefacts, plus displays that describe the culture of the Plains Indians, and the history of Bison.
The farm walk will take you on a circular tour around the fields, where you will see herds of bison (between 90 to 100!), and elk doing their own thing in the meadows. The walk is only about a mile long, so it shouldn't tire anyone out, even the little ones. There are lakes and woodland closed to the farm where you will see owls, pigs, prairie dogs, poultry, rare breed sheep and more! There is a duck hide hidden in the bushes to enable you to watch wildlife on the lower lake. There is also a picnic area, children's playground, and children's farmyard by the gallery lawn.
If you want to spend more time here, you can camp or even ‘glamp', as the farm also has camping and caravan pitches, plus woodland camping in furnished Gothic Pods!
