As well as a stunning collection of vintage carriages housed in the main station museum, families can also learn the history of the Bluebell Railway Line with interactive games, screens and displays, ideal for keeping kids interested.
The train rides themselves operate three quarters of the year round, with several options available and a seasonally varying timetable. The heritage tunnel one may often pass through is 731 yards long! The family friendly Grinsteade Buffet Carriage at the East Grinstead site is open daily throughout the running season.
If the kids really enjoyed it why not look into The Stepney Club for under 8s and the 9F Club for 9 to 15 year olds, both offering more active involvement in the railway.
Near the Bluebell Station is the National Trust Garden, which is also well worth some exploration if you've got the weather and the energy to expand your day trip! Dogs are welcome on the trains, and there is even a special ticket available for them, so I expect they'd like to go to the park afterwards too!
