From harlequin prints and cosy bedding to pops of colour and reading nooks, these are just a few things that you can easily incorporate into any children’s interior space. Whether you’re at the start of designing a whole new bedroom or simply looking to add the odd playful update or two, with a clever mix of old and new pieces, you’ll be guaranteed to come up with a creative and inspiring space that both you and your little one will love! Below we’ve shared some simple ideas on ways you can combine charm and imagination to create a Pinterest worthy children’s bedroom.

Pick a great wallpaper

A beautiful wallpaper can give a room an instant lift and provide an enchanting feel. Ferm Living are known for their classic children’s wallpapers, which are wonderfully versatile and can suit both modern and period properties. We love the harlequin mint print, as it’s ideal for growing with your child. You’ll find it styled in both nursery and older children’s rooms alike making it worth the investment.

Choose quirky bedding & textiles

Beds are often the key feature in any bedroom, therefore choosing some quirky bedding is a great way to make it a positive focal point, not to mention a cosy haven for your child to enjoy. We love Farg Form’s classic cloud print sets or H&M’s fun duvet cover collections. For a mismatched look and to add some texture throw on a contrasting blanket and finish with a selection of scatter cushions and cuddly toys.

Bloomingville House Shelves

Create a feature

There’s plenty of ways to add a creative feature to your child’s room. One of our favourites has to be a reading nook created with Ikea’s picture ledges. This is the perfect way to show off your book collection, not to mention a fun way to embrace the seasons and holidays as the shelves can easily be updated to reflect various topics. Other features you could explore could be a funky clothes rail displaying your child’s special outfits or some unusual shelving such as the Bloomingville House Shelves, which are ideal for displaying little treasures.

Hang some wall art

When adding the finishing touches to your little one’s room, selecting the right prints and accessories can make all the difference. Look out for cute wall hangings, flags, garlands, wall lights and wall stickers. If you’ve gone for a monochrome look then prints are a brilliant way to add a pop of colour. The same goes for if you’re wanting to add some calming accents, for example a neat quote or a minimal illustration will help simplify any rooms that are feeling too busy. This leads on perfectly to our final tip…

Keep it simple

When it comes to cute kids decor it can be tempting to go overboard. However, the key to a fresh modern bedroom is to keep things simple and to not over do it. Enjoy what you have and try make use of old pieces that can be styled in a new way, for example old frames and books or even bedding that can be paired with a new pillowcase for an uplift. This not only saves money but will help you create a room that is truly unique and personal.

Last of all, don't forget to have fun!
