February Half Term 2018: Activities, things to do & places to go
Where has the time gone?! A minute ago it was Christmas Eve and now we’re all getting in planning (or indeed panic) mode for February half term. Of course it’s always lovely to have the family together but it comes around so fast - some of us have only just got used to saying 2018!
Not to worry though, we’ve got February half term - the 2018 edition - all sorted. We’ve put together our best ideas for February half term activities and things to do, to make the most of this precious family time, as well as the essential school dates (below).
When is February half term?
The dates of the Spring half term vary by region and school, so we’ve broken down the outlying dates of the break by country below - your school’s break will fall into the periods below. Just remember though - you’ll have to speak to your specific school to get the ironclad dates down.

Top February half term activities
So what would be the best things to do in February half term? As it’s still a bit chilly it’s a great time of year to chuck your boots on to hunt out the first snowdrops or stomp around some castle grounds. The moody skies and muddy walks will make you feel like a real medieval character from back in the day, so be sure to pop historic spots on your list - we’ve a run down of our favourite castles in the UK to get you started.
Are you lucky enough to have a holiday in the Alps coming up soon? Taking the kids for some skiing and snowboarding practice at one of the centres around the UK will get everyone ready for the piste.
Or, if you’d rather escape the wintery weather and you’re looking for something a little bit more exciting than your trusty, local soft play, why not get in the driving seat with go karting or take a bounce at the nearest trampoline park?
There’s even a day out for those who’d rather be on holiday - head to an indoor waterpark for balmy temperatures, fantastic flumes and poolside lounging even if it’s snowing outside.

Some of our favourite attractions especially suitable for this time of year include:
Mattel Play! Liverpool - A soft play where children can meet and pretend to be some of their favourite characters, including Fireman Sam, Bob the Builder and Thomas the Tank Engine.
The National Space Centre, Leicester - This is a great time of year for star-spotting, but there’s no need to stay up late - the sky at night is visible all day at the National Space centre, plus it’s a great training ground for any would-be astronauts.
Doncaster Dome, Doncaster - Enjoy some tropical fun even if the sun’s not out at the Lagoon in Doncaster Dome’s water park.
Chill Factore, Manchester - suitable for serious skiers as well as those who prefer the post-ski hot chocolate, kids will love the donuts, tobogganing and real-life snow!
Yorkshire Sculpture Park, Wakefield - When it’s time to get some fresh air to blow the cobwebs away, wrap up warm and take in the art in the beautiful grounds of Yorkshire Sculpture Park.
