Eagle Heights Wildlife Foundation, Kent
Eagle Heights Wildlife Foundation is one of the UK’s biggest and Kent’s leading attractions for bird of prey lovers. There’s plenty to do there from marvelling at the breath-taking flying displays to meeting alpacas, huskies and eagles. Our favourite bird of prey experience is their Owl Experience, which gives you the opportunity to handle and fly different species of owl. It’s suitable for kids aged 14 + and you can do it in a group of four, so you can enjoy a proper family day out together. Thanks to the bird experts on site, you’ll leave full of owl knowledge too.
Battlefield Falconry, Shropshire
Home to over 30 amazing birds of prey, Battlefield Falconry Centre in Shrewsbury is a true local gem. There you’ll get to handle hawks, owls and falcons in a variety of bird of prey experiences but the most popular is their Hawk Walk falconry experience. You’ll learn how to hold and call a hawk, then you’ll go out for an hour walk in the stunning 200-acre Shropshire woods and fields with your new hawk friend. It will fly off, soar through the trees and come back to your fist repeatedly throughout the experience. Simply magical!
Cornish Birds of Prey, Cornwall
If you fancy learning about a great cause while enjoying your falconry experience, head out to Cornish Birds of Prey Centre. The centre is dedicated to rehoming and rehabilitating injured and unwanted birds of prey. You can see the feathered residents perform in a number of daily displays in half- and full-day Falconry Experiences where you’ll learn how to handle and fly various birds. If you’re based in Scotland and you’re looking for a bird of prey experience near you, World of Wings is the place to go. There you’ll find Scotland’s largest and most extensive Birds of Prey collection and you can see daily flying displays. However, if you want to meet the birds up-close, we recommend the Family Birds of Prey Experience. It gives you an hour of handling, plus the chance to fly three different birds of prey - perfect for a special family occasion!
Screech Owl Sanctuary, Cornwall
We know one thing, if you decide to go to the Screech Owl Sanctuary for a bird of prey experience near you, you’re in for an owl-some day out (sorry, we couldn’t help it)! The Close Owl Encounters are great for the little ones - you can meet and touch a number of hand-tame owls and learn all about them from the friendly animal handlers on-site. If you decide you want to get even closer to the birds, the sanctuary also offers Owl Handling Sessions which you don’t even need to book in advance.

Nestled in a wonderful woodland in East Yorkshire, Bridlington Bird of Prey and Animal Park is a fantastic place for an animal day out. Unlike most bird of prey experiences, their 30-Minute Owl Experience is suitable for kids as young as 7, so your little bird lovers can join you in the owl enclosure and meet the birds. The keepers will be happy to answer any questions you might have, so even the most curious kids will be satisfied.
Kent Owl Academy, Kent
Kent Owl Academy also offers lovely Children’s Experiences suitable for younger kids (6+). As part of their birds of prey experience, your young animal enthusiasts will first meet and greet the birds, then they'll learn about their diet and habitat, and they’ll have the chance to try their hand at handling and flying the birds. Don’t worry if your little one is a bit more timid, the handlers are friendly and caring, and they make sure each child feels comfortable around the birds.
