Only the Best: Best Things to do in London in 2018
Planning a family day out in London? With so much choice it can be difficult to decide what to do. That’s why we created the Family Favourites Awards - the awards which allow real parents to nominate and vote for their most-loved attraction.
More than 20, 000 of you voted in this year’s annual Family Favourites Awards. Want to know who came on top? These are the attractions YOU think make up the best things to do in London!
Best FREE Family Day Out in London
WINNER: The Natural History Museum
If you haven’t taken the kids to the Natural History Museum in Kensington just yet, you’re definitely missing a trick! With over 80 million plants, animals, fossils, rocks and minerals from all over the world, plus ever-changing exhibits, this is one truly fascinating attraction you can visit for free.
Let’s not ignore the elephant (or shall we say “dinosaur”?) in the room! What grabs the kids’ attention like nothing else is the ginormous animatronic T-Rex which welcomes you into an epic world of dinosaur history. And if your little ones really love dinosaurs, you should definitely check out the Dino Snores museum sleepover (although this experience isn’t free)!
Best Event at an Attraction in London
WINNER: Kew Gardens - Christmas at Kew
Fancy an after-dark fairytale experience? During the festive season (22nd November 2018 - 5th January 2019), the famous Kew Gardens will transform into a glorious night-time wonderland.
Coming back for the 6th year in a row, Christmas at Kew is a definite family favourite! So, pull out your winter scarves, wrap up well and get ready to explore the stunning light-up trails throughout the gardens. Moonlit Woods, Fire Garden, and even lasers… We all know Kew Gardens is one of the best places to visit in London any time of the year, but this is an event you won’t want to miss out on!
Best Day Out for Under 5s in London
WINNER: The Postal Museum
Taking your tots to a place called The Postal Museum might sound like a terrible idea because mail is boring, right? WRONG! Once you hop on-board the Mail Rail miniature train and go for a ride through the secret world of mail, you’ll be drawn into the magic of The Postal Museum in an instant.
Your curious little explorers will love the Sorted! Play Area - a little town with slides and trolleys, and pulleys and streets, designed for kids under 8. Dealing with mail has never been that much fun! As we said, The Postal Museum is one of the best things to do in London.
Best Animal Day Out in London
WINNER: ZSL London Zoo
When you’re looking for animal fun, ZSL London Zoo is the place to be! With nearly 20,000 animals you can meet at the zoo, this will be one of the best days out in London for any animal lover, no matter how big or small they may be.
Say “Hi” to the friendly lemurs in the walk-through area, see the majestic Asiatic lions at Land of the Lions and, if creepy crawlies don’t freak you out, see the weirdest of them all at the BUGS exhibit. Fancy getting your daily dose of cuteness? Go now and meet Paco, the adorable baby tamandua born at London Zoo just this November!
Best Educational Day Out in London
WINNER: London Transport Museum
Kids just love cars, trucks, buses and generally everything that moves, don’t they? At the London Transport Museum, curious little minds will be drawn into the history of the capital as they discover the vehicles of the past. If you meet one of the friendly characters in period costumes, don’t hesitate to speak to them - they’ve got some exciting stories to tell!
Also, make sure you put some time aside for your tots to explore the play zone at the museum. With lots of activities to complete, including getting behind the wheel of a huge bus and dressing up in uniforms, the kids won’t be in a hurry to leave!
Best Active Day Out in London
WINNER: Dinosaur Safari Adventure Golf
18 holes of action-packed golf adventure, humongous dinosaurs and lots of competitive spirit - this is what Dinosaur Safari Adventure Golf is all about!
When it comes to mini golf, age is not an obstacle, so the whole family can have a good time together. But at the Dinosaur Safari Adventure Golf, “the whole family”, really means “the WHOLE family”. Even your dogs are welcome! And since the course is outdoors, you can take in some fresh air and enjoy the weather as you play. Sounds like a great day out to us!
