Up for a trip to the best places to visit in Yorkshire? Let us tell you a bit more about this year’s Family Favourites Awards winners in the region. Over 20, 000 UK parents voted to give these attractions the victory, so we reckon they are worth a visit...

So, here they come - the best things to do in the Yorkshire!

Best FREE Family Day Out in Yorkshire

WINNER: National Railway Museum

National Railway Museum trains

Got a train lover at home? The National Railway Museum MUST be on your personal list of the best places to visit in Yorkshire already. From old-school steam engines to shiny new trains, you’re in for the biggest railway day out ever! The little ones will be treated to all sorts of train-related fun and games, including riding a real steam train, exploring a train-themed play area and lots more.

You know what, National Railway Museum was also voted by our expert panel of judges as one of the national winners in the Family Favourites Awards!

Best Event at an Attraction in Yorkshire

WINNER: Mother Shipton's - Peter Rabbit Easter Adventure

Peter Rabbit at Mother Shipton's

Peter Rabbit was at Mother Shipton’s Cave this year! From Monday 26th March to Sunday 15th April, families could go on an adventure trail and meet characters from Beatrix Potter’s stories. You could keep track of your progress on an adventure quiz sheet and with help from the characters around the garden, you’d be sure to complete the adventure successfully.

If your little ones love the mischievous Peter, keep an eye out for this event next year. If it comes back, it will definitely be on of the best things to do in Yorkshire for Easter.

Best Day Out for Under 5s in Yorkshire

WINNER: Sea Life Marine Sanctuary

Girl and octopus at SEA LIFE

Let your tots be mesmerised by the weird and wonderful creatures of the underwater world! Take them on a trip to SEA LIFE Marine Sanctuary in Scarborough and come face to face with nearly 1,000 amazing creatures in over 50 displays.

Meeting a giant octopus, fierce sharks and adorable waddling penguins, your little explorers will have a day to remember! Plus, if Finding Nemo is one of your kids’ favourites, you’ll love the educational show on the secret life of the clownfish.

Best Animal Day Out in Yorkshire

WINNER: Flamingo Land

Tiger at Flamingo Land

Flamingo Land is one of the best places to visit in Yorkshire for animal lovers. There are 129 species of animals in the park, including tigers, baboons, penguins and, of course, flamingos!

Animals won’t be the only star of your day. Flamingo Land also has a selection of rides and coasters, so the little daredevils in the family can have their fair share of thrills during the day. Love dinosaurs? We think Pterodactyl will be your favourite ride!

Oh, and if you want to come REALLY close to the animals, sign up for the ‘Meet a Creature’ sessions and make a new friend.

Best Educational Day Out in Yorkshire

WINNER: Eden Camp

Eden Camp garden

This is not your usual museum with static exhibits and lots of reading to be done. At Eden Camp, World War II is brought to life through authentic sounds, smells, moving figures and lighting effects. You’ll get to take a walk on the Street at War, take cover in a bomb shelter and if you catch one of the reenactments, you’ll get to step into the shoes of soldiers on both sides of the barricade.

If the kids fancy getting active and the weather permits, there’s also a 2-part Junior Assault Course for them to have a go at. Eden Camp simply is the best place to visit in Yorkshire for any history buff!

WINNER: Snozone Castleford
