Aren’t donkeys just adorable! At the Isle of Wight Donkey Sanctuary you can meet the friendly rescued animals, say Hi, pet them, groom them and generally make friends with the donkeys. It’s a great day out for the whole family, including the (well-behaved) dogs!
Want to make the day extra special for the kids AND help the charity? Adopt a donkey online and meet him/her in person next time you visit the sanctuary. Their own donkey - we don’t have to tell you your little animal lovers will go nuts!

WINNER: Dinos at Night - Roarrr! Dinosaur Adventure, Lenwade
Roarrr! Dinosaur Adventure won its place on our list of the best places to visit in England by having received lots and LOTS of love from you in the Family Favorite Awards. There are many seasonal events happening at the attraction but what won the hearts of the public over was Dinos at Night - an after-dark adventure, complete with an trail in search for fallen stars, funfair, high ropes, BBQ and more.
Best Day Out for Under 5s in the South West
WINNER: Cotswold Farm Park, Cheltenham
A day at the farm is so much fun for the tots! In addition to meeting over 50 breeds of farm animals, at Cotswold Farm Park the kids will have plenty of activities to enjoy throughout the day, including tractor rides, educational talks and bottle feeding the animals.
There’s an Adventure Barn with 3 play areas where your cheeky monkeys can blow off some steam, plus an Experience Barn where tiny sprogs can meet the tiniest animals on the farm, including chicks and rabbits. Animal fun all around!

ZSL Whipsnade Zoo just had to make it on the list of best places to visit in England - it’s the biggest zoo in the whole UK with over 3,600 animals to see and 600 acres of land to explore.
From meeting speedy cheetahs and friendly elephants, to befriending farm animals, and exploring the mesmerising Butterfly House, you’ll have more than enough to fill in a full day of animal-themed fun and activities. Best Educational Day Out in the North East
WINNER: Beamish Open Air Museum, Beamish
Beamish Open Air Museum is one of the best places to visit in England, if you’re looking for a historical experience. Step right into the North West of the early 1800s and 1900s - walk down the streets of the old town, see one of the oldest steam trains, explore a real drift mine and take the chance to get some traditional 1900s sweets from the shop. The kids will definitely get excited about the last one!
Even if you’re not a history buff, you’ll still be drawn in by the whole experience. It’s like stepping into a time machine, or walking into an old move. It's an educational experience that will stay with the little ones for a long time.
Best Active Day Out in the South East
WINNER: Diggerland Kent
Diggerland Kent is the best place to go if you want to get hands-on and dirty! With lots of rides and drives, the little ones will be kept busy the whole day.
Your tiny explorers will have the chance to get behind the wheel of the mini diggers, check out the view from the 50 ft. Skyshuttle and get some thrills on legendary rides, such as Spindizzy and Groundshuttle. Needless to say, the kids love it... just don’t make them wear their best clothes!
