Attraction Information

Does the idea of a warm climate, rich with beautiful flora and fauna appeal to you? That’s exactly what you get at Birmingham Botanical Gardens.

Things to Do

With 15 acres of landscaped greenery and over 7000 plants, shrubs and trees, Birmingham's Botanical Gardens is a hidden gem waiting to be discovered. Located near Birmingham City Centre, the botanic gardens offer a glimpse of tranquillity amongst the bustle of the city.

This educational charity has a range of glasshouses, each containing a different botanical wonderland for you to wander through. The four stunning glasshouses transport you to different parts of the world - without having to leave Birmingham!

The tropical rainforest is humid and dense in its colours, textures and smells. The subtropical house has palm trees and exotic plants, including a giant bird-of-paradise plant. The Mediterranean house is a burst of colour, akin to a Victorian orangery and the Arid glasshouse is like stepping foot into a desert or cliff edge where plants cling to life.

Wander through the beautiful gardens and admire the collections of plants and trees. Find your chill in the Japanese Garden. It's the ultimate spot for laid-back and peaceful vibes, and "ahh"-inspiring greenery. Plus it's also a prime spot for a Zen selfie! Make sure to also head over to the Rose Garden, it's worth it - we promise!

Embrace the peace and comfort as you walk through the beautifully quiet gardens, don't forget to take a moment at the benches to really soak up the serenity.

The Butterfly House

Immerse yourself in the world of beautiful butterflies at the Butterfly House. From May to September, prepare to see a colourful kaleidoscope of bright butterflies from across the tropical world, including the Philippines, Central America and the tropical parts of Africa. Watch as the butterflies feed on sugar water feeders and saucers. You may even see some chrysalises hatch!

Playground

Nestled in the corner of the gardens is a Treetops playground for children. Children of all ages can play, explore and run around the expertly crafted playground. Look for the totem pole based on traditional North American designs. It is amazing!

With climbing structures, jumping discs, TreeTops,  swings, sand pits, and water play, your little explorer will have a blast!

There are also plenty of activity trails for your little ones to take part in as you wander through the beautiful gardens!

Food and Drink

Why not stop off at the Pavilion Tea Room for a jacket potato and a cuppa? The perfect meal after all that walking! There is a range of delicious main meals, light bites, children's meals and afternoon tea. You definitely won't go hungry!

Botanical Gardens have accessible gardens and greenhouses. You can also hire a mobility scooter or wheelchair too!
