Attraction Information

Bath Abbey Vaults Museum has been closed for some time, but Bath Abbey itself, is definitely still worth a visit, with plenty to see and do, whatever the weather. Tower Tours are also available if you would like to know more about this magnificent building.

The history of the Abbey stretches back as far as Anglo Saxon times, with plenty to discover, from tales of saints and sinners, to kings and queens! There is so much history to discover here, plus plenty of lovely architectural features to admire, such as the ladders of Angels on the West Front, stunning stained glass windows, and amazing stone vaulting on the ceiling. It is a good idea to allow between 45 to 90 minutes for your visit, but if you are in a hurry, you can probably see the highlights in about 20 to 30 minutes.

If you have plenty of time to explore, there are Tower Tours available, which many consider the highlight of their visit. The tour offers a great chance to go behind the scenes and see the Abbey from a different perspective. As you make your journey up the tower, you will visit the ringing chamber and the bell chamber, stand on top of the Abbey's vaulted ceiling, and even get a chance to sit behind the clock face! Once you have climbed the 212 steps in the 2 spiral staircases (don't worry, there is a rest stop) to the roof, you will be rewarded with some of the most spectacular views you are likely to enjoy in Bath.

The whole Abbey is wheelchair accessible, except for the tower, and there is easy access in and out of the building.
