Bankfield Museum has been a local gem since 1887 and tells tales of the local area through diverse and creative collections. It’ll be a winner with kids and particularly parents on rainy days!
The exhibitions are an education on all sorts, including art, toys, jewellery and textiles from all over the world. Military history plays a big part and a host of temporary exhibits give kids a chance to investigate costume, painting and photography. All this and it’s free!
Located in the lovely Akroyd Park, the museum itself is a classic Victorian mansion and was home to the local mill owner and MP, Colonel Edward Akroyd. Explore the various levels with the top floor showing loads of exhibits throughout the year, including the award-winning 'For King and Country' commemorating the region's involvement in World War I.
