Attraction Information
At Balloch Castle Country Park it's worth noting that there's nothing really left of the castle itself, but the park is lovely and has a great kids' adventure play area at the bottom of the hill by the water's edge. The play area is totally enclosed so there's no fear of them escaping, and there's a cafe with seating next to it. Obviously being so close to the water they bear watching closely!
Within the grounds of Balloch Castle Country Park, there are many attractions to suit everyone's taste making it a great spot to bring grandparents or small friends along to! Apart from the castle shell itself, there are a number of affiliated houses, including the gatehouses, still standing, plus the ruins of the gamekeeper's house. These are quite atmospheric little discoveries to make as you explore and kids enjoy imaging who might live there…
There is a beautiful walled garden that was primarily used for the cultivation of fruit and vegetables for use in the castle kitchens. The gardener's house no longer stands but has left its mark on the garden walls. All in all it's a simple affair and not a flashy day out, but it's good for mini beasts, kite flying and frisbee throwing plus of course the play area, and sometimes that's all you want!
