With a miniature railway, indoor play facility and small animals to look at, this makes Marple Garden Centre a rather understated moniker!
The charming Dragon Miniature Railway houses a small fleet of 7.25 gauge engines which offers rides around the exterior of the garden centre! It's a reasonable distance incorporating some fairly steep gradients and pretty sharp curves, plus a tunnel and a bridge, so it's a surprisingly decent train ride to find at a garden centre! Plus from April through October you can disembark at the far end of the track and use the picnic area and green space to stretch your legs and bellies before catching the next little train back again. Nice!
There's also a children's play area which is a fairly small and simple affair with the usual play equipment like slides and balls, but considerately structured and pretty to look at, aimed at under 6s. It's certainly enough to use as a bargaining chip with small kids in exchange for getting to hang around the centre afterwards, shopping!
Speaking of which there's the large titular garden centre to explore plus a big pet shop which one might subtly use as a mini beast zoo for the really young ones! And a family restaurant too in which one can use the free WiFi service and enjoy kids' and main menus.
