Leigh on Sea Beach Regularly voted in the Top 100 British Beaches, a lovely sandy beach which stretches for 7 miles from Leigh to Shoeburyness, excellent for swimming, windsurfing and sailing.
Camber Sands Mountainous sand dunes and vast expanses so even when it's busy you can find a space for yourselves. Good amenities.
Hastings Beach Sand and shingle beach with good swimming and lifeguard cover. Many features and facilities at one end, quiet at the other. Connected to Pelham Beach.
Brighton Beach Long pebbly beach in a cove with safe shallow swimming and protection and natural windshield. Loads of once things to wander through nearby too including galleries, ice cream parlours and antique shops. Lovely!
West Mersea Beach A sandy pebbly beach great for crabbing, windsurfing and traditional beach days, with sandier shore at the eastern end where there's also a playground and some nature footpaths.
Seaford Bay Shingle beach with a few features to explore and good water for swimming with some lifeguard cover.

Birling Gap Chalk and shingle beach good for rock pools, fossil hunting and safe paddling, very popular with surfers and kite fliers, excellent local walks with loads of butterflies in season.
Frensham Great Pond While not technically a beach at all, as far as manmade inland varieties go it's a sterling effort: vast 13th century lake with sandy beaches, woodland trails and heavy on the natural wildlife, with triple Special status!.
Tankerton Beach Good for swimming but not building castles, this is a pebble and shingle beach with an intriguing natural causeway to explore.
Dungeness Beach Definitely for exploring, this is a visually dramatic shingle beach with RSPB hides and lots of local wildlife. No swimming, no immediate facilities.
Sunny Sands Beach A hugely popular sandy beach at the eastern end of the Stade and Folkestone Harbour. It is a firm favourite with families throughout the summer, with good facilities nearby including WCs and cafés, pubs and beach shops.
Climping Beach Pebbly beach popular with windsurfers, with summer lifeguard cover provided. Cafe, loos, fish and chips and windsurf school all on hand. Sorted!
Frinton on Sea Beach Good swimming with some lifeguard cover, nice sand and excellent fossil hunting territory close by. Deliberately traditional, no arcades, etc.

Now we have the easter and summer holidays fast approaching, we're trying to find the best days out and as many fun things to do with kids as possible, especially cheap and free family friendly places to visit this year - theme parks, waterparks and swimming pools, museums, indoor playcentres and softplay for toddlers, petting farms, wildlife parks and zoos, aquariums, horse riding, castles, steam railways, pottery making and ceramic cafes, roller and ice skating rinks, karting tracks, snowdomes, dry and indoor ski slopes, climbing walls, activity centres, outdoor play at the best local parks, ten pin bowling alleys and all the other best family tourist attractions, that you can visit at the weekend.
Also teachers may find the site useful for ideas for the best places to take their classes on school journeys with many historical and educational atractions listed
