Athelstan Museum A small local museum covering the fascinating history of this ancient town, with lots of interesting artefacts on display, including a Roman coffin! Interactive activities for the kids, and friendly volunteers to answer any questions. Free to visit.
Trowbridge Museum You will discover the story of Trowbridge from its early days as a Saxon settlement. The town's position as the Manchester of the West and beyond. Itâs here that you will find out about the textile industry, the lives of everyday folk and its famous residents such as Isaac Pitman and George Crabbe.
Boscombe Down Aviation Collection is a collection of historic fast jets and planes from MOD Boscombe Down. Lots of Jet Cockpits to get into, some powered, including Jaguar, Hawk and Harrier jets. Hear engine noise and air traffic control. Model aircraft and WW2 Display.

Avebury Stone Circle Visit the largest prehistoric stone circle in the world! Alexander Keiller Museum is based nearby and is full of fascinating facts about the area, plus loads of great interactive kids’ activities. Avebury Manor and Gardens also close. Fantastic family day.
Mompesson House Featured in the award-winning film Sense and Sensibility, the sumptuous setting is home to a variety of collections including 18th century drinking glasses. There is a children's guide available at reception and sculpture gardens to explore.
Old Wardour Castle Explore the set of Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves via self guided audio tour, with enchanting grotto and circular staircases, plus play and picnic space outside.
Silbury Hill Known as the English pyramid, this is the world's largest man made chalk deposit which does indeed rival the height of the pyramids. No access to hill itself but nice as a stop off if passing.
Chippenham Museum and Heritage Centre is a local community museum. Explore the past with Alfred the Great or Mr Brunel. Try dressing up as a Saxon peasant or a Victorian child. For under 5’s try Messy Monday or Noisy Friday. Everyone is welcome in our children’s holiday workshops.
Crofton Beam Engines Visit the oldest working steam engines in the world that are still performing the job they were built to do! Especially good on a steam day.
Wilton Windmill The only working windmill in Wessex still producing flour. Picnic area plus some great walking trails. Guided tours availble some of the year.
Great Witcombe Roman Villa Visit the remains of a large villa that was built around AD 250 plus a shrine to a water spirit! Tricky terrain though, best for the fit and mobile. A short trip, but free!
Salisbury Cathedral Visit one of the finest medieval cathedrals in Britain, which has the tallest spire in England! Holds the world’s best preserved copy of the Magna Carta and a medieval clock. Tower tours available.
Link Leisure Centre Ice Skating Comprising an ice rink, a 25 metre, deck level, pool, climbing facility, 5-a-side outdoor football pitches with floodlighting and a state of the art gym.
Swindon Ice Arena offers public skating, ice hockey, figure skating, ice dance and pairs skating plus individual lessons and learn to skate courses. Penguin and Snowman stability aids available, plus loads more on site like extreme trampolining and junior gym!
The Link Centre is home to an international-sized ice skating rink, a massive trampoline park, and a 25m pool.
