Yarmouth Castle is a lovely little Tudor castle, set in a beautiful seaside town, with stunning views over the Solent available from this 16th century waterfront fort.
A great place for a relaxing family day out by the sea.
When you step inside this atmospheric place, you will be able to see how the rooms were used during the 16th century, plus an exhibition about the many wrecks that occurred along the treacherous stretch of coast overlooked by the castle. You can also see Isle of Wight paintings and memorable historic photos of the area. Climb the battlements for amazing views that will also show you why Henry VIII built this fortress here to guard Yarmouth harbour.
There are reading corners for children, objects such as replica plates and goblets to handle, plus a model of the castle in the form of a jigsaw that enables children to learn the history of the fort as they play. The rampart lawns provide a good spot to have a family picnic during warmer weather.

It may be worth checking out Yarmouth Castle's website to see if there are any special events or seasonal fun things to do that may be going on during the day.
We do strongly suggest you contact Yarmouth Castle before you set off on your family day out, just to make sure they are open and to confirm admission prices, as there is nothing worse than disappointed kids in the back of your car after a long journey.
