Worcester Cathedral
Worcester, WorcestershireAbout Worcester Cathedral
Worcester Cathedral is a lovely cathedral, with plenty of interesting features to discover, including some fantastic Victorian stained glass, and an ancient library and archive, which is home to the second largest collection of medieval manuscripts in any cathedral in the UK!
Kids will love exploring this amazing building, which has an ancient crypt and medieval cloisters to explore, plus the royal tombs of King John and Prince Arthur to examine. The crypt has a number of storyboards telling the history of the cathedral and there are also interactive touch screens with additional information, plus more of these on the main floor. Kids can discover interesting information about the Anglo Saxon roots of the cathedral, special saints, musical heritage and more.
There is a free phone App you can download too, which has 2 self guided trails to follow, the Cathedral and the Pilgrim trail, both of which bring to life the rich history of this ancient building.
It is free to visit the cathedral, but there is a charge for the guided tours. There are fantastic views from the top of the tower, but kids will need to be able to manage the 235 step climb of the spiral staircase independently. However, once at the top, you and the kids will be rewarded with fantastic views over the city, the River Severn, the Malvern Hills and surrounding countryside.
