Wetheriggs Zoo and Animal Sanctuary

"what are we doing today?"

Wetheriggs Zoo and Animal Sanctuary is a small family run zoo and rescue centre near Penrith in Cumbria.

We have lots to see including Alpacas, Donkeys, Goats, Reptiles, Bats, Raccoons, Meerkats, Foxes, Skunks, free flying Macaws, Chickens, Pigs, Vulture, Owls and much more.

There is an adventure playground on site for the kids and a cafe serving hot and cold food and drinks and cakes.

The zoo is situated on the old Wetheriggs Pottery site allowing visitors to see some of the old machinery used including the original steam engine and blunger and the original beehive kiln. During all public school holidays we offer various animal encounters and handling experiences including Red Squirrel encounters and reptile handling. We are always happy to get animals out for visitors throughout the year when possible.

Bags of animal feed can be purchased from the main entrance to make the experience even more fun and allows you to get up close with some of the animals.
