Tinside Lido
Plymouth, DevonAbout Tinside Lido
Tinside Lido is an open air sea water lido, so the temperature is naturally lower than usual and wetsuit style costumes are best for the small ones. Built in 1935, Tinside is a great example of the quintessential British seaside from a bygone era. The Lido is a wonderful example of traditional art deco style and is Grade II listed, voted one of the top 10 best outdoor pools in Europe!
Food is allowed into the complex, i.e. picnics, but glass bottles and alcohol aren't allowed. There are vending machines with sweets and drinks and limited poolside catering.
The original water features have been restored with some modern modifications. The central fountain has a cool mushroom effect as well as a jet which kids love to play with; the 2 edge fountains are smaller with water coming from the round grille.
There are qualified lifeguards on duty at all times who are also trained in first aid. There is very little shade on poolside so it is advisable to bring sunscreen and hats. The pool is fully tremendously accessible with lifts from the Hoe promenade to the pool deck, poolside wheelchair, hoists and disabled access changing and loos.
