Thinktank
This is where science and history come alive in unique and amazing ways.
Across ten exciting and inspirational galleries you can explore freely, get interactive with the exhibits and add your own experiences to the wealth of information and interest on display.
Thinktank is about us, our world and the way we live in it. This website simply can't show you all of what's in store for all ages, but we can give you something to think about!
Nine remarkable experiences
Thinktank is like nothing you've ever seen before, because Thinktank is a brand new way of looking at the past, the present and the future. Every area has been designed to bring knowledge alive whatever your age.
The Planetarium
Birmingham's very own digital planetarium - powered by Digistar 3, the world's most advanced digital planetarium projection system.
Using state-of-the-art digital technology to present breathtaking images onto a 360 degrees domed ceiling, the recently opened Planetarium at Thinktank places the audience right in the centre of the action - a totally immersive science experience. With a vibrant daily programme of entertaining shows, astronomy classes, activities and lectures, we will take you on an inspiring exploration of the night sky, our galaxy and beyond.
The IMAX
The IMAX is part of one the country's most exciting visitor attractions, right in the heart of Birmingham. For excitement, scale and sheer sensory overload nothing comes close to the IMAX experience.
With a screen as high as a five storey building and as wide as four buses nose to tail, 2D presentations are spectacular enough, but the special 3D films will have people reaching out to touch the images on the screen. The crystal clear picture and 42 speakers of digital surround sound ensure a truly captivating experience.
Thinktank's Cafe is open during selected periods and serves light meals and hot and cold snacks.
Within Millennium Point there is also a licensed bar and an additional cafe serving a delicious choice of fresh baguettes, tortilla wraps and sandwiches with fillings that range from Tuna Nicoise, Mozzarella, Black Olives and Basil to the more traditional BLT.
Various food available in the Cafe
The Thinktank shop is where you'll find weird and wonderful mementoes of your visit to Thinktank as well as some unusual presents for special occasions. We've gone out of our way to bring you gadgets and gizmos plus puzzles and packs, including educational science-based kits. We think you'll find it a museum shop like no other, where else can you get your hands on a Build-a-Hovercraft kit, dinosaur models, talking clocks and loads more?
Accessible toilets on all levels; adult and baby changing facilities are also available. We now have an adult change facility with a hydraulic changing table within Thinktank. This is located in the disabled toilet on level G1 by the schools cloakroom (Hub end). There are seating areas on each floor of the museum.
We do not sell baby food. Our staff are happy to warm milk upon request.
By road: Millennium Point is located three miles from Junction 6 of the M6, 9 miles from Junction 3 of the M5 and 11 miles from Junction 6 of the M42. Millennium Point will be signed from these junctions. Secure parking is available on sit
