Henry Moore Studios & Gardens
Much Hadham, HertfordshireAbout Henry Moore Studios & Gardens
At Henry Moore Studios & Gardens, families can enjoy a relaxed and inspiring day out where art, creativity, and the outdoors come together across an expansive 70-acre landscape. Set in the heart of the Hertfordshire countryside, the site offers plenty of space for children to explore freely while discovering the work and world of Henry Moore in an engaging and accessible way.
Across the grounds, families can encounter over 24 monumental sculptures placed within the landscape, allowing children to experience art up close and from every angle. The open setting encourages curiosity and movement, making it easy for younger visitors to stay engaged as they walk, run, and respond to the shapes and scale of Moore’s work.
Visitors have the opportunity to explore Moore’s working world through his seven preserved studios. These spaces give families a glimpse into how he created his sculptures, from early ideas and models to large-scale works. Nearby, Hoglands, Moore’s former home, offers a more personal insight into his life, helping children and adults alike connect with the artist behind the artworks in a meaningful and human way.
New for 2026: The permanent exhibition on the 'Art and Life of Henry Moore' introduces visitors to his ideas, influences, and techniques in an accessible format, making it a great starting point for understanding what they will see across the site. Alongside this, 'The Shelter Drawing 1940-1941' exhibition provides a powerful and thought-provoking look at Moore’s wartime work, offering visitors an opportunity to reflect on a different aspect of his practice.
For hands-on creativity, families can take part in free drop-in workshops designed to spark imagination and encourage making. These sessions explore Moore’s themes, materials, and techniques in a relaxed and welcoming environment, suitable for a wide range of ages. Many of these activities take place in the new Sheep Field Barn, which opened in 2026 as a dedicated space for learning, creativity, and family engagement. This bright and flexible venue provides an ideal setting for experimenting with materials and ideas, whatever the weather.
